well no axies as of yet but I'm getting there. I picked up some nice blue and purple sand today so set it all up.

The tank is really way too tall, but it's the only spare one I had lying around, I'll probably upgrade it sometime soon to a more suitable tank LOL, its a 2 footer. No filter as of yet, as the filters in another tank which is stocked with fish, so it should be completely cycled by the time I get axies.

The feeding dish, it's an all glass ash tray LOL

Any comments or hints are definitely appreciated, I should be getting axies in a couple of weeks time.

Hi Emma

What intriguing sand - kind of looks like the surface of a planet doesn't it? Maybe planet 'Smurf'?

My suggestion is that you include a hiding place for your axies - one that they can really get underneath and enjoy some darkness and peace. All the best.

And some plants..axolotl like to rest/ float on them..in your tank the taller ones would be great and then your axolotl will be able make more use of that space.

The whole tanks fairly dark, as it was originally used for nocturnal fish, I kinda altered their light cycle a tad so I could see them during the day. Without the lights on the tank it's pretty much eternal dusk, so I figured they should be happy enough with just the pots?

Okies will see if I can dig up some plastic plants, live plants die pretty quickly becuase of the limited light.

They'll still need things they can get underneath and hide in, regardless of how bright the tank is.

It doesn't appear to be that long. How many axolotls do you plan on putting in it?

Hi Emma starting to look good, you could look at a tunnel or cave with some plants around the entrance axies love to hide at times and if they get startled it gives them somewhere to destress.

Plants are a must either live or fake wont matter also gives somewhere for healhty bacteria to live and helps with the over all health of your water.

Its always a work in progress I have three tanks now and all are subject to change.

You are well on the way keep it up and maybe have a look at the Tanks and setups part of this site or www.axolotl.org and check out the info there oh and also the gallery on this site has some good photos.

Good Luck

Are you sure its a two foot tank?
Mine is and mine looks longer. and a more rectangle shape.
Yours seems shorter and more squarish.
It might be ok for one, but they do grow quite large ^^
