I have researched all about the morphing and needs injust have a few questions. My guy is starting to morph. His gills are shorter and fusing and he also has lost the long tip layer on his tail. He is currently in a 20 gallon long tank with water full as last week he was fully aquatic. I put a taller tub to help him reach air if he needs it because I jave noticed him doing it here and there. He still sleeps on the bottom of the ta k and swims. How do I properly prepare him to morph. I don't wanna just take him out of the water and into a dirt substrate and when do I do that? Would it be helpful to just put him in a tubbing situation until he finishes morphing?
I plan on to have the dirt substrate, a log or pvc tube hide snd a water dish to lay in. He also isn't eating for the past two days he just spits his worms out. He normally eats worms twice a day. Any help for the changing process would be great

It depends on the species. Do you know which species it is ? Some species quit the water once metamorphosis is over, other wait a little, or stay in the water.

It's normal. During metamorphosis, important changes occur in the jaws bones. Maxillar bone becomes longer and the contacts between different bones changes radically. Some teeth arrangements change also (vomerine teeth). In the throat, the hyobranchial apparatus also undergo important changes. During this stage (more or less long depending on the species), the salamander cannot eat. A well-fed larvae can successfully pass this.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
