i like exoterra tanks with the front opening for easy access.

They look a lot like my 1 pair. I don't keep near that amount of water in my fire salamander tanks. I'm afraid they will drown.

they actually go in the water sometimes, i keep the logs in so they crawl out when they want.
I was wondering if the ones you were selling were the same.(sounded like that in your ad.now that i figured out how to post i will put more up soon.

Michael is right
salamandras are unable to swim. That water is definitely too deep. They just need a shallow dish of water for taking a dip when the terrarium gets too dry. I'd immediately remove the water to avoid the sals drowning.

Hello,
I really like those exoterra tanks too, but I haven't gotten any yet because I think that even in the largest one I have seen there's maybe not enough floor space for them. What do you all think? The smallest tank I keep grown newts in is a 15 gallon.

They like attractive looking displays but layout might not be best for some animals. I also prefer a nice sized footprint and don't necessarily need the height for most animals.
What I was trying to say in my first post is it looks nice but is not the optimum set up for those animals. If kept with that deep of water eventually their will be trouble in the tank.

I think the difference in opinion for some set ups is what each of is looking for in the hobby itself. I am not really interested in breeding my sals like a lot of people in this site.
i enjoy making terrariums and loohing at them.
As stated before, these have been in this set up for a year now. I have watched them in the water and they seem very happy in their set up.
BUT, I believe in listening to other more advanced keepers advice and have lowered the water level to 2 inches deep.
They can stand with their heads up if they are in the water.
as far as floor space for them that tank is
18 inches by 18 inches.
the larger tank is 18 by 24 inches.
thanks for the heads up on the water.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
