I went home from work at lunch to do the rounds for the animals and found the male newt had scaled the separator and somehow squeezed between the screen top and the separator to be rejoined with his main squeeze.

Does this mean there will be another few months of fertile eggs?

No, unless the male is in breeding condition and has had the chance to display succesfully. The possibility is there, but i´d say it´s probably unlikely.

Wrong time of year as well, int it? Would they breed out of season?

Many newts species do not follow the classic winter/spring breeding schedule. It is not uncommon to see breeding at anytime of the year, especially seeing that many newts in captivity do not see the dramatic change as they would in nature. This does NOT apply to all species as some are very tricky to impossible to breed without the key triggers of nature.

I would agree with azhael, possible but unlikely.
