Ian:

Nice tank and rearing area. Looks like you have been successful raising C.O. for a good reason.

How often have your newts bred? How long have you had them? What do you do with the morphs?

I have only been keeping newt for 10months, so my newt only bred once.
Thanks to the information I got from here, I have very low causalty of those babies. I tried handfeeding frozen bloodworms and FF. I have some springtails for occasional snack. As soon as I found them accepting handfeeding worms, I stopped offering FF.

The Morphs container uses black sand with coconut fibers and fallen leaves. Provided some hidding places for them as well.

I use it to start the siphon (Air tube). Since the larvae are small, I use air tube to change water instead of using gravel cleaner.

I also use the syringe with a soft short air tube attached to a hard air tube end to suck out brime shrimp from my brine shrimp chamber.

Ian - have you thought about possibly trying out a semi aquatic setup for your morphs? Ive been doing it with my group of 7 C.e.p's and plan on doing it with my 15 C.o's babies once they morph. I remember reading that those raised on land grow slower than those raised in an semi aquatic setup.

but I dont want them to risk their lives of drowning. I so far have no death with the land set up. But only one that died by drowning due to my delay to move it to the land.

I actually think that it is easier for me to take care something on land now then water. Since I dont have to change water.

And on the other hand, I secretly hidding them in my school residence now, (just started school again), so land animals are easier for me to hide.

but thanks for the concern.
