My newt is floating upside down...

I don't know why. He seems to be a normal newt size, but his spine bones are showing. He doesn't look thin though.

I just came home to see him floating upside down. I thunked on the tank to see if he was just asleep. He didn't move. So I scooped him out quickly. He moved a bit, walked on my hand a little and then rested on my finger and stopped moving. He moves a little bit when I touch him, and he is currently in a glass with just a bit of water because when I put him in too much he went upside down again.

Please help~!

I love my little newt. >.<

Hi!

What species of newt??? Temperature? Supply a minimum of information or otherwise you are not likely to get any suitable answers.

It's probably best to get the newt out of the water on slightly moist paper towel (in a dark box). Check out the section on "bloating" on the axolotl pages.

Best wishes,
kai

}I agree, your newt seems to be bloated. Air pump filtration can create gasses that can affect the newts. I'm not sure if that can cause floating.

Emma, that's a myth - air-driven filtration doesn't affect newts in any negative way (but, of course, as with any other filtration system avoid too much current).
