So a week ago today I was looking through my cities online classifiedes and saw a newt and 3 fish, free to a good home. So I went and got them. I was expecting the newt to be a Cynops orientalis as they are just about the only newt I see in stores around here, but nope - its a pachy. It's small, only about 1/2 the size of my female, ~3.5". I guess its because its young? Anyway, since I already have a paddletail my intent was to fatten it up and advertise it come fall when shipping is more safe. But now I am not so sure. I have grown fond of it, and with the two successfull captive breedings that took place with other members of this forum this past winter/spring, I have all these grandios ideas if this is a male. I do have one big tank just sitting empty - 4ft long. So I am kinda excited. The little guy is eating well, though I can't tell if its put any weight on. It does have the very long and slim body composition of a male, but again, maybe this is because its a young? I guess I will just have to wait and see. So heres hoping it gets big soon, its a male, and it and my female won't try to kill each other if and when I put them together.

Sounds good. The newt is lucky to have found you. (Subtle hint: we want photos;))

I would like to think its a lucky little thing. I would love to post pics, but all my photos automatically download to photomax, and from there I can only share them through email. If someone wouldnt mind trying I could send them to another member, and they could try to download? I guess I could even try emailing them to myself (why have I never thought of THAT before?!) Hmm, I am going to try something...

Ok, so I am still too dense to figure out on my own how to post pics in threads, but I do have some pics in the members gallery of my latest addition under Pachytritons. The little fellow is still doing well, eating blackworms and very small bits of earthworm - it didn't take it long to eat worm chunks offered on the end of a toothpick! The setup seen in the pictures is temporary, since I wanted something simple. I will be placing it into a 10g, more permanent tank in the neat future. But so far, I am pleased with how well it has settled in.

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
