Just a few days ago I got two male chinese firebelly newts. They have been adjusting really well, and have been accepting food (both live and pellets). However, they look like they might be getting a tiny bit fat? Is feeding every other day too much?

Here are the pictures of Cecil. I'm pretty worried about him. The other newt looks totally normal to me. What do you think?

Is your tank cycled ? The water looks cloudy but it could just be picture quality. Are your fire belly newts wild or captive bread?

The water is a little yellow from wood tannins, but the water quality is good. I think the pictures are just a tad blurry. I believe they were imported, but had been living at the store for a while already.

At the moment he looks fine to me, keep an eye on him though, if he keeps getting bigger there could be something wrong. Sometimes a picture from directly above can be best for spotting an abnormal swelling.

I'm so relieved that you think he looks okay! I had no idea they could get so pudgy. I guess I'll just keep an eye on him for now.

I feed mine every other day as well. Seems to keep them happy and healthy. I'm sure you'll notice if something changes in their appearance. It's good that they have bellies!!
