I haven't been on here for a few weeks. I was attempting to raise some eggs to juvis, but it just didn't pan out well. Someone on my local reptile forum posted a female melanoid for sale and I just had to pick her up. After talking with the guy a bit, he also had an albino available as well. I should have looked at pictures first, before deciding to get the albino - as her gills seem to be a bit malformed. I'm still glad I got her. Here they are:

not so much malformed as poorly cared for by the look of her... keep her well and her gills will fluff out in a month or two with luck!

I was reading up on it and found that it was either genetic or poor water quality. I was hoping it may have just been the latter and her gills will get better being in quality water. She's housed with the melanoid in a 40L now. :)

They're both lovely but the melanoid is beautiful! She looks like black silk!

This happened my Golden Albino.
I bought her/him from a pet shop which had no Caves or Plants, A Constant light & Gravel.
It's gills were Short and hardly fluffed at all.
But after 2 months In her/his new tank, They've really grown!

Its probably because there's a high ammonia content in the water. So change your water.Try to cycle your tank, or at least get some ammonia neutralizer. :) Her gills should grow back quickly (unless it's a different problem).
