Good evening,

My latest newtlet surfaced the other night. & to my dismay when I transferred it over to land shelter w/ the other newtlets, I realized its hind legs were gone!!!

As a larvae, it had no legs missing.

I figure that there's not much I can do @ this point, I'm expecting the worst.

So far it doesn't seem very phased, spends time on land & water. I'm just going to try adding more slow-moving food (live blood worms) during feeding time.

Any other ideas, I'm open.

Thanks,
Eileen.

They'll grow back, but it may lag behind a bit as far as growth for the rest. Just make sure it's not outcompeted for food and it should be fine.

Thank you, I thought it might grow some back, but your reply makes me feel much more validated.

:ufo:

In the meantime, the others seem to be using him/her as a stepping stone @ times, but it seems to have enough strength still to move out of the way when agitated...

If you have the space, it may be beneficial to separate your little "mernewt" until its limbs have regenerated. That way it won't have to compete for food or end up being bullied. On the other hand, with plenty of hides and lots of food, like Kasey stated, it may not have any problems remaining with its siblings.
