Just for some background I would like to think I have some experience in the hobby but had not been in the hoby for quite a while (like 20 years) On day last spring I decided it was time to get back into it. So I asked my wife what she wanted to keep and she said axolotls (she is in medical research and always had a soft spot for them). That summer I went about building my racks and setting up my tanks with a focus on heavly planted tanks with lots of invertebrates (Seed shrimp, Scuds, Daphnia and Red Cherry Shrimp). Wanted to give a "changless" tank a try and need to build the eco systems.

In October I ordered 30 eggs from another Caudata member, and they started hatching on 10/26/2023 (for about a week) and now I have 24 left (some eggs clouded, couple deformed etc...) most are over 4 inches and a few closer to 6. I fed them fresh hatched brine shrimp but included seed shrimp and daphnia into the tub when they hatched. About the time they got front nubs I moved them to tanks (absorb waste better) and started to transition them to chopped blood worms (with all the seed shrimp, scuds, daphnia and cherry shrimp they could catch). Now my live food is depleted in the tanks with axies (except cherry shrimp) and I got little monsters. I have raised a lot of salamanders from egg, but this is the first time for axies my question to the site is this normal to be at 6 weeks and 6 inches?

Hello, I’m looking for fire bellied newts that will ship to Ontario, Canada. Are there any captive breeders here? I’ve had many in the past and I’m looking to get a pair for my 12 yr old. I will be the care taker!

Hello. I’m looking for some input. My axolotl is about 7 months old. I came home and her gills are completely white. I was reading that they do shed around this age. Could this be why her gills are white? The ph is 6.5-7. Nitrates are 80 Nitrites 0.5

My axolotl’s gills have turned completely white. she is about 7 months old. I fed her a couple of pellets to see if she would eat. One hit her head and she flipped out. Started darting all around the tank. Temp, ammonia, nitrates are all in range. Anyone know why this is happening? I pu
