The first 3 photo's are of the larvae, the third one is of them all in one container prior to being seperated. The 4th picture is of the proud parents Jeffrey and Maude (aka Princess) and the final one is of the catfish using the new tank!

Lookin' good! Glad to know I'm not the only one that has a catfish problem ;)

Righty ho,

I find my self spending far too much time gazing at the axolittles, I am now seeing some new changes. Many are just showing their front leg buds, some of the golden albino are much paler and as for the freckled ...well.. I had assumed that they would be wild type, but many seem to be loosing the speckling ( is this larvae camoflage perhaps?) and becoming speckled gold and speckled leucistic. Fingers and toes are crossed for a leucistic or two, though Hubby is reduced to tears at the prospect of more tanks....

I can't wait until my little axies grow up and have babies. I think they are male and female. Anyways, your's look awesome. Best of luck!!

..It got confusing for the kids and their army of friends so the parents are refered to axolot- els and the larvae as axolittles...Probably the wrong thing to have done but the children picked up the connection far quicker that way..many thought they were any thing between tadpoles and mosquito larvae. Its getting now to the stage that I get so many visitors coming for a look ,through word of mouth that I should start putting up posters and imfo sheets around my kitchen..turning it into a mini zoo !! .
Cat fish have been evicted to a more feline enviroment and the parents now are resident ( they look so tiny now Prince is quickly trying to grow to foot the space( now just touched the 1ft mark) and Maude just lurks.

LOL!!
Love the catfish. My cat would so get into my tank if he could!

when did these baby hatch?

Its all a bit of a blur, but I think it was during the first few days of August, possibly earlier. These hatched very quickly in approx a week as the air temps were quite high. Now its cooling down it it'll take longer.

Larvae update

Just a quick update on the wee beasties. Getting bigger and more axolotl shaped. Their bodies are filling out and despite my best efforts to capture on camera , many have front legs. This week I am aiming to seperate them into smaller groups.

...and i thought i was the only one that refered to the young as "axolittles", great job.

I love the pictures of development! your golden seems to have almost neon pink gills!

I think its a name that fits..its just not the correct one!
I think all the colour variations are facinating, I just wish I understood dna. Thanks for your comment!

Are you feeding them on brine shimp hatchlings bella?

Yes I am at the moment..but they are going to need to move onto something bigger soon. I have 2 hatcheries on the go at all times, so when one is emptied the other shrimp are ready . They are being given occasional wrigglers and blood worm that I find in the garden( got buckets/ tanks/ pots dotted all over the place to get them..just wish the cats would stop drinking the water though!

Update !

They are now close to 5 inches in length and 5 months of age..and look much like their dad. Would have added one of the melanoid but they are all in hiding!
Really wish I had cleaned the glass too ....

Great photos and interesting to see how long it took them to get to this size. No idea how old mine is, but has grown about 3cm in last two months I've had him and is now about 20cm. Love the cats. Ours is weird, and appears to not even notice the axie.

Mine are still only about 2" and have not fully developed their back legs yet. I must have the slowest growing larvae in history. lol I think they hatched about the same time as bellaboos. They are eating well though so thats a plus. I have now moved them somewhere abit warmer.

lol...I still have one from the same batch chilling out side, and its still barely a cm....in fact I am going out side to see if I can capture him , so I can show you!!!.... I may be some time.........................
