Last night at approximately 2am my tiny little guy climbed out of the water for the first time! He went back into the water on and off throughout the night, and by morning had stayed entirely terrestrial! He is about this long upon morphing: ----------, which is considerably smaller than while still gilled...Never-the-less, he seems of healthy weight, and I hope to see him take prey within the next few days. He will be offered white worms, chopped (again, like before he hit the final stages of being larv...), and flightless fruit flies. I hope that he will be able to take garden worm tips again very soon, but he has lost considerable size upon morphing. Size, referring to length rather than width. Any tips, or advice is welcome and sought...

Thanks for caring enough to read my excited ramble!

I would say that you shouldn't feed morphs with pieces of earthworms or nightcrawlers, as see i and my friend, morphed amphibians fed with them tend to die. I don't know why, probably too "heavy" food?

I wouldn't even worry about trying the worm bits for a few weeks. Stick with the white worms and fruit flies and it will grow in no time.

Congrats! Now, where are those pictures?

Update:

He ate about 3 whiteworms last night! Forgive me, but I still can't believe just how tiny he is! What a beautiful little creature!
Thanks for the replies/feedback. I will keep you all posted. I will send you a link to my album when pics are up, Kaysie.

Update 3.0(lol)

He is still looking great, with 100% color/pattern. Right now he is in rubbermaid clear box with paper towel substrate. He has a patch of live moss, a river rock, and a sleeve of bark. I plan on obtaining some Springtails today in my woods. I'll let you know any results...

Good to hear it´s doing well. You have a long way ahead with this fella, but i´m sure you´ll enjoy every second of it.

Springtails were not so plentiful, but i got about 20 in. We'll see how he does, and if he eats them. I want to get some live moss, and such and try to see what comes out.

Be careful with the moss inhabitants....ticks and centipedes are common, and you don´t want those in your tank.

Thanks Azhael, I had that happen to me(ticks) with my T. Shanjing. I learned my lesson and use very small patches with all the dirt removed, etc. Nothing bad happened to my T. Shanjing, I had caught it in time, and did a whole tank clean-out. I appreciate the tips!

I checked him out today after work...He has a big gut and i see no whiteworms, and only 1 springtail. I think he had a great night last night! He is going to be hard work, but as said before by Azhael, worth every second! Thanks for the ongoing support!

What springtails are you feeding that you can count them? If you need a container of springs send me a message and I'll hook you up....

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
