Oh wow Sin siter, they look great!
Its very rewarding isnt it?
Waiting so long for the tank to cycle... and then this - introducing the babies to their new home.

Yang is just too cute!!!!

tell me about it jojo, i went about the previous tank completely wrong due to lack of information before finding this site and they all got sick with ammonia problems, fungus, crazy temperatures, which was so stressful for both them and me, then with the big tank i thought, no i'm going to do this right, i don't care how long i have to wait or the expense, want it to look nice and have them healthy
happy.gif
and now they've become my stress relief.

wow great job! it looks AWESOME! if only i could decorate tanks like that...

Tank looks really really nice Sin
happy.gif
hopefully u have more luck with ur sword than i did
sad.gif
ur plants look really healthy
happy.gif
do u fertilise ? and what temp are u running ur chiller @ ? also what sort of times do u have ur lights on ?
sorry for all the questions, but all my plants used to look as good as ur's but not now
sad.gif

P.S. ur axies must be thrilled with there new home
happy.gif

hey rob, nope didn't fertilize them, i'm running two 3 foot fluro's in the hood (one a growlux tube), everything seems to be growing well except for the grass i have on the left hand side, i'm not sure what the name is, i thought it might have been the heat but the chiller hasn't really made any difference to the growth. i'm running the chiller on 20 degrees, any lower the condensation on the outside makes one hell of a mess. I generally run the lights from around 7am 'til 9pm. my partner has a growlux tube in his tank and his plants go absolutely nuts. I've found the wysteria grows really well, along with some long grass like stuff i have at the back, and the anubis seem to love the temperatures, my sword plant is only a new addition so i'm yet to find out how it's going to fair.

Sin Sister you have an absolutely outstanding tank
happy.gif
.

I just love it. I love the drift wood. Pat your self on the back, you're doing a great job with it ^___^.

Just some precaution : Be careful of that thermometer. I had one and it broke while it was inside of the tank. It was really bad
sad.gif
. Luckily I caught it in time. I was taking it out and it barely clinked against the side of the glass and the bottom shattered. I didn't notice it until I had taken it out.

When you find some time, mind taking a few more shots of the tank? I just love it!

thnx Rheann, i've been meaning to do something about that thermometer and have been tossing up with the idea of a digital one instead.

the driftwood is actually 2 pieces, we found them in the store by chance and thought they looked neat, i never thought i'd ever fork out money for firewood though hehehe.

my partner is bringing his two girls up this week to put in the tank with my fellows so i'll be bound to take some photos (and tear my hair out if they start to breed lol)

*WOW!*

What size tank is it sin sister? And how long were you cycling for?

thx Sin
happy.gif

that grass on the left is the same as i had in my tank, didnt grow too well took 3 out of the 4 i had out but 1 is going well, i got another species of grass thats similar recently and it's doing alot better, grows about 1-2" a day
happy.gif
my java ferns arn't doing too good now
sad.gif
but i think it's a brown algae problem
sad.gif
so have turned my light "powerglo" down too 10hrs a day instead of 12 so c how i go ? i run @ 18c so i might adjust so it's 20c and c how it goes ? also lost my ludwigia
sad.gif

might give the wysteria a go....

thx again
happy.gif

Nice thank! And cute axies!!How old are those little cuties??

love the tank very nice job there, having just finished setting up another 2 tanks i know how u feel on the forever and a day comment ..what type of wood is that as its very nice is it drift, bog or just imertation plants look great too
happy.gif

hey rob, don't suppose you've got any pictures of the grass that you had success with, i'm starting to think that my snail might be part of the problem with the grass but he hasn't been knocking off anything else in the tank so.. maybe it's just the grass isn't suitable.

charles, it was a 230L tank (103cm x 54cm x 46cm) and it took 28 days of foul smelling fish fillet decaying to cycle.

sherri, when i got the axies, i dare say they were around 2 - 3 months, banana boy i'd say is about 3 months now, ash 4, yang 4 and yin 6+

chris & kristy, the wood i'm not entirely sure about, before it was wet it was a dark brown/red colour. it's marketed as "driftwood" but i say could be anything.

here ya go Sin
52563.jpg

i'm a bit embarised about the state of my plants, but the ones that seem to be doing well are the grass in between the java ferns, they grow wild, also the hair grass does really well and the java moss has grown heaps... just going to do a big clean up now and get rid of what eva doesnt look too healthy
sad.gif
spewin cause the java ferns are $14 a pop
sad.gif

What fun!! Things look great, and lots of rom to roam.
To really keep the plants looking good, you generally need 2-3 watts per gallon, and co2. Love the tank.

beautiful tank Rob, i got some of that grass your suggested on the weekend and replaced the stuff that wasn't doing very well.

thx Sin
happy.gif
but have made some big changes "again" lol, spent about another $50-60 on more plants and got rid of the ones not doing to well
sad.gif
just about all my Java ferns are gone now... getting another 36" fluro tomorrow so hope that fixes the problem.
the grass plants grow really well
happy.gif

i'll post some more pics when i get time...

P.S. i think my tank needs a womans touch
happy.gif
ur looks sooooo much better set out
happy.gif

Rob, let us know how that light goes - i was thinking about that myself.

RE womans touch
LOL ROB!!! DW mate, ur not doing bad for a bloke yaself!

from what i read and been told "by Sin Sister" the glowlux lamps are the go Jojo and the reading iv'e done informed me i needed more light for my plants to grow well so added the extra 36' fluro, was a bit worried about putting more light in cause i thought it might be a bit bright for my axies but they dont seem to mind and have plenty of plants and the cave and root to hide under if it gets a bit much for em
happy.gif

the lights are on for 10 hrs a day with a timer.
my wisteria is thriving since i added the extra light but will let u know after a cpl of weeks how it's all going

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
