Hi Everyone. Just wanting to show a picture of one of my young fellas. This is Juvi. He/she is now 14 weeks and almost 14 cm. He/she is the largest of my babies. Not really babies now. The smallest is about 7cm. That is really is a differeance in size isnt it. They are all from the same clutch.

Not a very good picture but I'm learning. Aren't his gills nice and big.

Juvi acts as if he/she is the best thing since sliced bread. Well I think so too. lol. Juvi use to eat it's smaller brother and sisters till I found one in it's mouth. I could figure out where they were disappearing to at first. I didn't think it was possible.

OMG - I knew they were supposed to eat each other but I never met someone who had them do it.

Poor little axies

That must of been traumatic for you

Thanks Cynthia. I pride myself on those gills.

Hayley-Jane, you should have been here. I went to feed them and noticed something at his mouth. A closer look and I found it to be a tail. So I pulled it out. Just in case he choked on it. It was still alive. I then counted and found I was missing 2. I looked at his belly and it was white black white black. Oh boy he had already ate 2. But the good thing is the one I pulled out of his mouth is still alive and has almost caught up in size.

Maybe you should put a muzzle on him! Naughty!

Yeah that is a considerable difference in size Stacy. I agree with Hayley-Jane...Juvi ought to be muzzled...I'm glad you managed to save the 3rd axie before he/she went down the hatch. He would have been stuffed. Juvi's gills look more like wings. He's/she's gorgeous

Juvi is not interested in eating the others now. That was a few weeks ago now. He has now found what a feed dish is for. First in, has a feed then gets out. After the others have eaten Juvi goes back to finish up.

Sounds like he has a right old character developing there!

haha his gills remind me of pegasus'(sp?) wings. very beautiful indeed

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
