I got a 75 gallon aquarium I'm planning on setting up for a few axolotls. Here is my idea of a set up, please let me know if I should do something different. I'm planning on getting a few bags of "play sand" from the hardware store. I have used this before on a turtle tank. I will put the sand in a five gallon bucket and stick a water hose in it to flush out all the fine sand, keeps the sand storms down.

I got a sun sun 304b canister fitler, it's a 4 stage and im going to load it with bio media.

I going to use live plants, the surface will have frog bit and maybe some duck weed. Then I plan to put low light plants in the sand.

Then im going to walk the creeks and river and find some nice smooth river rocks, I will clean the rocks and boil them to kill everything on them. Done this on my piranhas tank and it turned out very nice and natural looking.

Well that's about it I think I'm sure I will change my mind a few time as the build guess along.....

Everything sounds good from what I've researched, make sure to cycle the tank as well.

However for the rocks, you really need to identify them to know if it's safe for your axolotl. Read this:
Axolotl Sanctuary

In the rocks section it tells you how to sanitize rocks! Make sure they're bigger than an adult axy's head too of course.

Most defiantly, after they are cleaned up I take a grinder to the bottom of the rock, then pore vinegar on it to see if it bubbles. Letting the tank cycle it a most for any aquarium... Thanks for the help!!!!
