Yes folks, I've entered the world of video. I can only apologise for the quality of this but it's my first attempt at filming anything. Fortunately for you it's only short. I particularly like the way it starts out as HD TV quality on the camera and ends up looking like it was filmed on a web-cam you got free with a magazine.

Things can only improve :D. It's N.strauchii feeding - yes, they are speeded up for comic value :hat:.

I liked it. Especially how you sped it up.

Hi
Mark

Its a quite impressive video i think, the subjects are impressive too, i like the way they walk when sped up, moving like little dinosaurs!!

I just can't handle the spots! In scientific lingo, they're TOO CUTE!!

I think that is a wonderful first video Mark. Keep in mind this is advice coming from someone who has yet to take the digital camera out and attempt the first pic after four years of slamander keeping! Seriously though, those are some nice animals that look very well cared for.

AW: My first video

I like the video and its "soundtrack". :D

Re: AW: My first video

I love the one on the right. It goes for the pile, but then backs up, and rams the other ones. Bully!

The ones that jump in place like they're little rubber toys are even cuter than too cute!
The music was perfect!

That's that dodgy Swedish band again isn't it.

Nice video - the transition is very nice.

Ha ha, yes, it is that dodgy Swedish band. It was the only music comical enough.

I've now figured out how to change the lenses on the camera, so with a bit of luck I can do macro video.

Thanks for the positive comments. I shall practice. If anyone has tips for improving the video quality on you-tube, I'm all ears. The little mpegs look great on the pc but look dire once you-tube has imported them.

What model of camera is it?

It's an old Canon XL1-S (that's seen better days, I might add).

I was looking at that model about 18 months ago but then I remembered that I have no money.

"Ha ha, yes, it is that dodgy Swedish band. It was the only music comical enough."

Mark: i must agree that the music was very comical, and that i feel a litle ashamed to be swedish when i hear some like this;)

Cool video by the way, beautiful newts!
Cheers/Tomas

Upload at 640x480 and as high a frame rate as you can manage within the YouTube size limit (100Mb). When you record, use the best quality lighting you can arrange.

Nice video!

Don’t be ashamed Thomas! I like quirky Swedish bands. You should be proud of them :D.

The good news is that my 2nd video effort is well underway. Now I’ve figured out how to use some of the basic functions on the camera this one should be much better… It’s a lot more labour intensive than stills photography and newts are tricky subjects. They either sit and do nothing or tear around the tank expecting to be fed.

Thanks for the tips, Alan. I'll give them ago.

nice video thoes salamanders are aswsome how mutch are they at pet shops there soo cool
im trying to find some salamanders as pets

In addition to what John has said, these are NOT 'pet shop' animals. They are a fairly endangered species, and are only bred by a handful of people in the world.

O im sorry aobut that i just joined today and thanks for the tip

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
