For a few weeks now my female has been really fat and full of eggs but was against breeding here as not in situation to rear or sell the eggs.
Yesterday I gave in and popped my male in with her and within 3 minutes he had his tail raised and dropping his seed.
About 30 minutes later I noticed my female swim over his seed and use her back legs to insert it inside herself.
4 hours later she has started laying eggs,
She has been at it for the last 24 hours in all positions, side ways, diaganal, head out of water, upside down. she not laying them as fast as she previously did, so far only about 100 eggs been layed.

she must have been really desperate to lay her eggs.

Axies will reabsorb the eggs they don't use. There's no need to let them breed just to get the eggs out. It's stressful for the female to lay the eggs and it takes a lot of energy to produce new ones which is what she will do pretty much right away when she's done laying the old ones. Just keep them separated unless you want to raise the eggs.
