So as my title says... My petstore abused newts (well one of them at least...) have finally decided to eat a big fat waxworm! I'm so excited! So my question is... I want their body weight to recover and gradually increase and repair itself so, is waxworms the way to go? I've read that they are very high in fat which I'm thinking should be good for them... or not? I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Well id try to feed them a standard diet (bloodworms etc) with a few additional wax worms. Feeding just waxworms might not be a good idea. But in the short term might bulk them up as you say : ).

As stated above wax worms are pretty high in fat and should not be used as a stable diet. I understand your concern, but being a certain weight or size and being healthy are too different things. I would use wax worms sparely along with earthworms, blackworms, and frozen bloodworms. Earthworms are a great choice because of their nutritional value and I would suggest using them the most. Very small earthworms or hand feeding chopped worms works well.

Congrats on your newt eating! It is a great start to restoring the newt to good health.
