I've been gone for about two days, and when I returned home today I noticed my C. pyrrhogaster was unusually active and observant. It may just be because of the summer temperature, I'm not sure. But today she did something striking that I've never observed her do once in the 13 years I've owned her. She began clinging tightly to the long stock of a plastic plant with her hind legs rather vigorously. At first I thought she (yes, I'm sure this newt is female) was just struggling to manuver past them, but I soon realised she could have easily left if she wanted. It was as if she was attempting to lay eggs on the fake plants or something. There are none there, of course, nor does she have a mate of any sort.
