My babies

I am so in love with these littles guys I had to snap a few shots. My first three hatched on the 15th and my two younger ones on the 17th. They seem to be growing just fine and I see some little front leg buds on the older ones. They are all being fed on brineshrimp and seem to have a nice appetite. Oh and also a big thanks to their nana Kaysie.

update

so here are my five axies, they are all looking good with big gills and front legs and they all measure between 2cm and 2.5cm. I took the shots right after a brineshrimp feeding so they look a little full !!!
Also some of them seem to show some color pigment while others just look see-through.
Please tell me how they look !!!

Lookin' good, Eve. I just spotted back-leg buds on some of my biggest, so keep an eye out! The 'see through' ones just may turn out to be leucistic. I have a handful of definite leucistics in the bunch, so you may have gotten some (pics 1,2, and 4 look like they have the potential).

thanks I really try hard to baby them. I'll keep posting pictures as they get bigger. I do hope for at least one leucistic.

I'll go on a limb and say #2 is almost definitely leucistic, #4 is probably, and #1 maybe.

they are about the same size as mine!!! awesome got mine from KAYSIE!! 2 of them failed me but the others are doing fine... but i'm not too sire about their colors yet

Would the pigmented ones be melanoids then? Also could there be a chance for an axanthic?

The pigmented ones will be wildtype or melanoid (dad's melanoid, mom's... questionable). It's hard to tell when they're young, unless you can see shiny patches.

As far as axanthics, I think there may be some, but with dark (non-albino) axanthics, they do not thrive, and usually die pretty quickly. I had a slew die off for no apparent reason right off the bat, so I think they may have been axanthic. I also have a few 'midget' larvae that haven't grown at all since hatching. So there's some genetic things going on there, maybe axanthism. But I don't think any of yours may be (although the 2 of Crested's that died off may have been).

over the past few days my biggest one (pic #5) started showing a whole lot more pigments. I can't see any shiny patches but then again I avoid shining lights at them and my tiny LED flashlight (mostly used to see brineshrimp movement) makes them look blue.

here a some new pictures, they are all growing so that I can tell them apart now. We have named the biggest one Dio (he's the one in the first picture). The three middle ones are all about the same size and the fifth one is my little runt. I now think three will be melanoid or wild-type and two might be leucistic.

Hmmm I thought from what Kaysie said that the pigmented ones might be melanoid or wild-type, my hubby will be dissapointed if they're all leucistic because he really wanted a melanoid .
So what you're saying John is that some will be pigmented leucistic?

Shine a light at their eyes - if you see a reflective ring you do not have melanoids. Leucistics are not unpigmented - they just have pigment limited to the upper half of their bodies due to a developmental mutation. Some leucistics have more pigment than others - look at the galleries.

they all seem to have a reflective ring (it looks kind of golden-yellow) so I guess no melanoids for hubby. On the other hand I find some of the pigmented leucistic quite attractive. My husband is now refering to my axies as "pinkies".

I love statistics. Out of the 60 I raised, and 40 I kept, I got 4 leucistics, a handful of 'weaklings' (maybe axanthic?), and a mix of wildtype/melanoid. But Eve got 5 leucistics. And Crested got 5 wildtype/melanoids.

lol you have got to love statistics indeed, my husband says you did it on "purpose". Just because he wanted a melanoid he gets all "pinkies".

With my batch I had high hopes of getting leucistic....had always wanted a leucistic and a melanoid, instead was given my beautiful wild type and a golden albino( the parent of the white eggs I raised). I may have had them but I decided to seperate them by colour ( i.e light and dark) and managed to cook all but one of the light. I am now , after homing 7 , left with 3..hoping at least one will be a male. BUT all are so far indicating them selves to being female!!! I can not understand genetics ,especially axolotl. But from what i am learning about axolotl....just when you think you understand, they'll go and do something unexpected!!

I'm not sure that we want to add another axie ... my husband is trying to convince me to place some of our axies but I worry because of horror stories I have read about how shops keep axies .
