This is my first Axolotl. The tank is a bit bare right now as i'm working on putting in the fake plants/more hides. I have no idea of the age or the gender. I was basically given it at my local petstore.
What a beauty!
You might want to consider putting sand in as a substrate instead of the rocks. They look to be too big for the axy to eat, but it's better to be safe than sorry (especially for when it gets bigger)! Also, it's much easier to clean
Thank you all!
I was thinking of taking the rocks out until I can get some sand. Any suggestions on what kind of sand to get? I live nowhere near a town, so It'll be towards the end of the month until I can get some. For my hermit crabs I use clean play sand, I know that they're completely different but it's worth a shot to ask if that works. Thanks!
Play sand would actually be awesome, but you have to clean it first. Then again. And another time. And once more after youre pretty sure its squeaky clean
Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
