I got him today, he hasn't got a name yet (any suggestions? I'm looking for an old fashioned human name).

Right after I bought him I noticed one of his gill-things is munted. It's all shrivelled and almost non-existant. There were other axolotls and fish in his tank at the pet shop so I wonder if they were chewing on him? Will it grow back? Will he be okay? I haven't got any really good pictures of it, and now he's hiding in his cave and I don't want to disturb him.

See his top left one is all munted looking :(

Anyway, here's some more picture of him :D I wanted to make him a cave out of slate but haven't been able to find any anywhereeeee, so I gave up and got him a peice of poly pipe for now.

What do you think?

I love his big lips, are they abnormally large for an axolotl? They make me smile anyway :D

Hes adorable!! and thats a nice hide for him =] Good tank also ^^

Not to worry, hes still got the other ones. If you have a look at some of my pictures of Sunny, his gills are well and truely, well, retarded!!

Classic of the dog hehe!! very cute =]

I think Edward suits him!! (nothing to do with twilight lol)

goodluck with your new friend, his lips are truely big and beautiful.

Your axolotl is beautiful, and I adore the photo with the pup. Definitely worthy of a frame!

Oh good! I was worried he'd have trouble breathing.

My dog is super interested in him! And the funny thing is, he has never noticed his crazy crab neighbours, even when they are out of their tank, he loves to eat their food though  At one point he jumped up and tried touching him with his paw through the glass, sooo cuuute. The axie doesn't seem to care at all, he stayed looking at him right up to the glass :p

He got really quiet for the past few hours, hiding in his pipe, and I just assumed he wanted a calm moment after the excitement of finding a new house, but just now I went to give him his dinner and I noticed he'd thrown up a little pile of gravel! The axolotls at the pet shop were in a tank with tiny gravel, and I commented on it and they seemed to think they could regurgitate it fine, not that I believed them. But, he seems a LOT more happy and active since he threw it up, so I think he's okay this time. So I gave him a bit of his food (frozen squares of beef heart) I defrosted it first (was I supposed to do that?) and I put it in front of his face, but on the way down lots of little bits broke free so now his tank is full of little fragments of meat that I'm not sure if he's going to eat. Anyway, he sucked up the big piece in front of him (it was very exciting), and then spent the next minute spitting up sand. Which made me worried. Should I feed him on a dish or something with no sand? Or in a different container?

Yes, frozen food should always be defrosted - and quickly rinsed to remove the meltwater - before feeding.Beef heart is not really an adequate staple, though - have a look here: click for other ideas and info on feeding.

My pups are more attracted to the breeder fish than the axolotls - and like yours, they are more attracted to the fish food than the fish!
