Can someone help me? My axolotl does not eat for 20 days. It is floating a little, I separated it, I have been using bacterah free from aquahelth for a week. I did forced feeding with novolotl feed diluted in water. The parameters are good, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, ph 7.8.
I'm so sad for my boy!
I don't have a vet who understands axolotl here.

Does your tank have rocks/gravel?
Does he alway float? Tap him to see if he goes to the bottom of the tank.
If not, he might have impaction. Let me know if he doesn’t sink/swim to the bottom.

I have no substrate, it sinks at times, but soon it floats again. he is having difficulty keeping his feet on the ground.

That may be a case of impaction. I have some one who is better at Axolotls’s than me. They said they’ll come help as soon as they can. I’m not 100% sure that fridging would help, But give that a try.

it is in the fridge, but without any improvement. He ate nothing, I was told a supplement, from the megazoo for forced feeding. Any opinion on the case is welcome.

Being fridged, I would not expect him to eat. His metabolic rate has been slowed way down.

Before he stopped eating, what were you normally feed him? how much? and how often?

Thank you for responding. I offer earthworms, fish fillet and food for axolotl, he feeds every other day. It is a male of one year and three months. The other four continue to eat normally.

yes, i do the water changes in the morning and also at night. I will withdraw then. How long do you think he will eat again? Thanks for the answer.

i dont really have an answer for that. it depends on what made him stop eating in the first place. If he doesnt become more active or interested in food within a day or so, or the floating comes back, we'll have to reassess

I talked to other axolotl breeders in a group and they have the same problem as me, axolotl doesn't eat for 20 days or more. Has anyone had this experience? we are considering a reproduction period, everyone is the same age group and the oldest is two and a half years old.

I've never had one stop eating during breeding season, if anything I think mine eat more. But I'm sure there are plenty of factors, like temperature, that could be affecting them
