It is difficult to tell from the picture but it looks like it may be a rip in the tail which has fungus. The treatment generally for fungus is salt baths and fridging to try and clear the fungus and slow the metabolism till the axie has healed.
If you search the forum there is lots of instructions on how to do salt baths and the fridging technique.
Hope your axie is soon healed!

could some one tell me what kind of salt and how much and how long to leave my axie in it ??? coz im sooo scared she is going to die from fungus poor baby miso :(

Hannie,

you can use aquarium salt, table salt or sea salt. I believe that you should put 2 to 3 teaspoon of salt per liter of dechlorinated water. You can do 2 to 3 salt bath a day and leave the axie in it for 10 to 15 mins (no longer than 15 mins though).

... and how do u put the axies in the salt bath coz i thought u werent ment to touch them ????

I suppose you should fridge the axie until it gets better and the fungus is gone. As far as not touching them I use a net to move mine but they are still really small. I think you'll have to wait on someone a little more knowledgeable for that one.

If you have the container for the salt bath already prepared, you should be able to just pick it up and slide it in by hand, from the fidge container to the salt container. Have a lid nearby in case of escapes though! and make sure you wash your hands before and after handling your axie. You should be able to hold your axie around its middle- I find mine move around less when you grasp directly behind the frant legs with your thumb on the axies back.Otherwise a large net works too.
Others might have a better idea though.

ok well i cant rlly see much from the photo, except that the tail is curved at the end, which is a tell tale sign that your axo is stressed.

Maybe check your water for ammonia nitrite and nitrate... oh and pH, also water temperature is a big factor to stressed out axies. (ideal temp 18-22C) if it goes to high into the 20's they will stress out

i agree, salt baths and fridging, but you should continue the baths and fridging until about a week after the fungus has cleared, this is just to make sure theres none there that may be hard to see.

one thing u may notice when the axolotl is in the fridge, it will most likely stop eating, or start eating alot less. This is because putting it in the fridge slows down their metabolism which therefore slows down their eating behaiour. DONT STRESS ITS NORMAL. you can keep them in the fridge for quite some time, and when placed back into their original tank it may take them a couple of days to start eating again.

Good luck!

hope i kinda helped a bit =]

Just a quick correction Robbie. Under 20C is ideal, in fact, 14C-18C is better. Some axolotls find anything over 20C is stressful while other axolotls can cope with up to 24C
