My two axolotls (Hecate and Grim) are a few weeks old and have started to grow their front legs. Hecate is a bit more advanced though, probably because he/she is a little pig;).

the legs still look like little stumps, and as far as i can tell, they don't have any little fingers on them yet, but that should change by the end of the week i guess.

i was wondering when i should start trying to hand feed them pellets? at the moment, i have 'fluker's buffet blend' pellets (my local pet store was out of axie food, but said these are fine). i was going to hand feed the little peices with tweezers, but at the moment the axies both seem so tiny, and they still run away when i try to remove them from their tank with a container for cleaning, so iu don't get how they are going to stay still long enough to even see the pellets!! they are between 3 and 5cm long. they are golden wildtype looking axies if that's any help....

any advice on when to start hand feeding them would be appreciated :)

They are too young for pellets. I'd go with chopped blackworms instead.

Even chopped earthworm still wiggles for a while when put in there. Mine are 8 days old and a few have very little stumps behind their gills and are still eating daphnia.

Or frozen bloodworm. You have to wiggle it for them though

I feed my babies frozen bloodworms and live blackworms and they love them. I must say I think the blackworms are better because they dont mess around with the water parameters as quick. I have tried crushed up pellets but they didnt take them.

Larvae cant smell until all of their legs have fully grown, it's best to feed them daphina or BBS until they have grown all four leg's.
With this said, at the stage where their front leg's have fully grown it is possible to start feeding them on frozen bloodworm's, chopped blackworm's or frozen daphina.
But it is still best to keep them on a stable diet of live daphina or live baby brine shrimp until they have grown all four leg's.
After that stage it is possible to chop pellets and swish around the water or try to hand feed them, but id wait a little longer until they are about 7cm before trying to hand feed.
