Cirrently cycling this tank and the water jsut wont seem to clear up. I dont thonk its a bacteria bloom and i used seachem clarity two days ago. What good this be? First pic is now. Second pic was before adding clarity.

Hi ya, how long has the tank been cycling. Mine took about six weeks to complete and went through a typical cloudy stage, which cleared up after a coulple of 30% water changes. Check that none of your plants are rotting cause that can cause cloudiness. But generally if all your test readings are within cycling normality it's just a waiting process, and the tank will soon be crystal clear.

It's not a good idea to use clarifiers or any other chemicals in an axie tank - axies are very sensitive to additives.
All tanks go through blooms in their first 6 months, it's normal and healthy as the tank establishes itself.

The axies are not in the tank and will not be in until fully cycled.

Did you rinse the sand really well? If not it could be the sand causing the cloudiness as well. Either way that should settle over a week or two.

Hey. I did rinse the sand. It is coming along nicely now. Crystal clear water. I just need it to cycle. These are my parameters:
PH 7.2
Amonia .50 ppm
Nitrite .50 ppm
Nitrate 5 ppm

Is this the look of a "getting there" tank or is there somethibg ai could be doing. I do a 40% water change daily and I jave ghost shrimp only in the tank now. About 4 of the 20 i have died off and i just fping one rotting away in tge small bushy plant in the righy corner. Any advice?

Well, you are seeing nitrates and both the ammonia and nitrite readings are low that is a good sign. Also if you have not done a test of just your standard tap water I would test that. Mine comes out of the tap with 5ppm of Nitrate so that is something I always keep an eye on and suggest to everyone to check as well. Have you already had a Nitrite spike or is this the first of the nitrite you are seeing? The shrimp will be pretty sensitive to the ammonia and nitrite so probably keep up the water changes to keep them healthy.

Hi. Today my readings are as follows: ph- 7.2, amonia- 0.5, nitrite- 2ppm, nitrate- 10 ppm
My tap water: ph- 8.2, amonia- 1, nitrite and nitrite- 0

Can someone tell me if this good and what precautions I should take. Im not in a rush to put the axies in the tank. They are tiny and prefer bloodworms over chopped earthworms. Im not about to search a 40 gallon breeder for bloodworms????

Today ph is 7.2
Ammonia 0.25 ppm
Nitrite 5ppm
Nitrate 20 ppm
Am I headed im the right direction?

Looks like the cycle is headed in the right direction. Nitrite must be spiking now. You should see the nitrite begin to drop over time as well and eventually both your ammonia and nitrite should read 0. Your Nitrates are going to continue to rise like they are, this is because the nitrites that are building are also being broken down into the Nitrate. The best things to keep Nitrate down are going to be water changes and the live plants. Up to 40ppm is alright, but if you can keep it lower that is always best. Also, what water conditioner do you use? I ask only because with the tap water having the 1ppm of ammonia. It would be good to have a conditioner that is removing ammonia, or detoxifying the ammonia until it can be broken down by the bacteria after water changes.

Thanks for the response. Im using prime. My readings today are:
Amonia 0ppm
Nitrite 2ppm
Nitrate 20ppm.
I have 9 ghost shrimp in a 40 gallon breeder. Should i add more? Also, axies are getting pissed of with the daily water changes of their little tub. My question is. I am laready foing 40% water changes for the tank. Is it ok to put Spec, Astrid and Nemo in or wait for it to fully cycle? I think im leaning towards waiting but im so excited to see them explore their new home.

Hi ya, id honestly wait. It's not far off being cycled and if you put them in while it's still cycling the filter media won't be able to cope with their waste so the nitrite and ammonium/ ammonia are likely to rise and stress them out even more so and you'll end up doing very large daily water changes to keep up. . It seems like your readings are all coming down so not long now :)

I completely agree. Things are looking like they are going well with the cycle and prime will be great since it will detoxify the ammonia from water changes. Keep checking the water and wait till both Ammonia and Nitrite are reading zero for at least a few days steady before you add your Axies. As far as ghost Shrimp you could always add more to help with breaking down any leftovers or decaying plants or just because you like seeing them wander around the tank, but be warned they will likely be eaten... Even our Juvie Axies hunt the ones my wife and I had added to our 60 gallon. They ate about 6 of them within just a couple days... It is cool to see them eat them also :)

Thanks guys for u support

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
