A friend of mine has been keeping these together for years - and it is not just friendly individuals, he has several tanks!

I thought this was impossible, but the evidence is right in front of my eyes - not even a single fight.

Thoughts¿

I have found keeping very well fed animals kills agression in many aquatic animals. I have seen fish that people said could never be kept together maintianed in a single tank for years without a problem. Cooler water temps could also contribute to the peaceful enviroment.

Are you sure they're mudpuppies, Necturus spp.? Mudpuppies are highly adept, speedy underwater predators.

They are definitely mudpuppies, that is what I thought at first, and I checked everywhere, and it is definitely them.
Also, you even get the axolotls lying on top of them!

When I had a mudpuppy and an axolotl, there was about a six month period where I had them together after an aquarium broke. They were equal sized and there was no obvious apparent problems in a large aquarium with many hides. During the day the each spent time in their favorite hide, and at night they were active and seemingly indifferent towards each other. For the most part I wasn't concerned, however, my axolotl was always missing the very tip of his tail. I had thought that this was from tearing it on aquarium objects, but then one day I observed very territorial behavior in the mudpuppy and tail-biting of the axolotl as it approached the mudpuppy hide. Shortly there after I had separated them and the axolotl's tail soon grew back. I'm sure they can co-exist together, but I'm not sure that it's the most stress-free life for them both.
