i have raised tropical fish for most of my adult life. is having axolotls for pets that much harder. want to get some axolotls but want to be sure know what i am doing first
Norman,
You would have better luck getting responses by posting in the correct section of the forum and reading the posts there. There is an entire axolotl forum at the bottom of the page. It would also probably be best if you read the species accounts on caudata.culturer (just follow the links on the initial page) and on axolotl.org
Water cycling would be the same as you would do with fish. You want to be sure that the tank filters can handle the amount of waste that you allow to be in there.
How did you keep fish for years and never hear about cycling the tank? Any decent pet shop employee should explain cycling to customers. Keeping axolotls isn't any harder than fish but they may produce more waste (poop), so understanding cycling and water quality is very important.
Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
