Hello every one, im new to the sight and am looking for some help with my axy.
basicly i think the care may have been...over simplyfied by the sellers when i got him. so i want to just get the full dit on what to do with him.
he is currently in a 2 foot tank with 2 hides and a few large plastic pebbles knocking about but bare bottomed apart from that.
it is unfillterd as i was told he didnt need it, and that it would acualy be detrimental o him in the long run. i have recently added some oxgeneating plants just to help thae water along.
the water sits about 68-70 and i use anphip water purifier when i change water.
i was told he would eat blood worms but he stopped eating a while ago, and would only take wax worms, but fearing them a bit fatty for him asked about and have got him some bait pellets from an angaling shop. how many and oftern should i feed him these? i dont want him getting to fat lol. nd he seem to not want to look for them, but only takes them from the tongs.
im moveng him up to a 3 foot tank soon and jus want to get it right after the misinformation i got, so recomendations for substrate filter and feeding would be greatly appreciated
and a last point, i know axys are renowed for there abilatys in limb regenaration, but hes gone overboard..hes growing an extra foot....is that a major problem?
many thanks for any help given

I would get a filter with a gentle current for starters, I'm not sure why the sellers thought it would be detrimental to have one, but afaik a filter is an essential unless you want to be doing water changes everyda!. Two hides is a sensible number for one axolotl, but having extra won't hurt so long as he still has space to walk around. Plants are always a good addition, especially if you can get the live ones to grow . Bloodworms are good for juvenille axolotls, but ideally moving them on to earthworms as soon as they are big enough is a good move, as they are one of the best staples for axolotls. You're right that waxworms are fatty, so I would be reluctant to feed these regularly (if at all). Pellets are a suitable food source, never used them myself, but axolotl or salmon pellets are normally advised.

How big are the pebles? If they arent big enough your axie could eat them and possibly die. As far as substrate goes, sand, barebottom, massive river stones or a slate bottem are suitable. I would stay away from the stones tho, they will make cleaning the tank very difficult. As far as the foot thing goes, I have no idea lol. Do you have a picture of it?

Bare bottom tanks are by far the easiest to clean with the aid of a turkey baster and i find my axies tend to poo in regular areas. Corners of the tank or just inside the plant pots are favourites. Earthworms are the best food and if tweezer feeding works the movement of the worms will be a big attraction at feeding time.

thanks for all your replies, very helpfull.
they said the currents produced would stress him out? could you suggest a sutible filter for a 3x1x1 tank?
as far as bare bottomed i think i have read it can stress them as its hard to move about? wold sand be ok? like cjildrens play sand?
the stones are ok, well over the size of his head
ill try to get a pic of his extra leg soon
