We are working on cycling a longer more terrarium like tank to move our axie Gus in.

Is there anything that we should do: like put some old water in the new tank, or move the decorative things in a day before we move Gus.

Any advice would be very useful, thank you

Adding established media from a healthy established tank will help to seed the good bacteria onto the new tanks filter.

The water column carries the toxins not really the good bacteria - that attached itself to the tank walls & surfaces of everything - so the more you transfer across the better :) plants / hides etc

Just for the sake of semantics: a terrarium is a terrestrial setup.

Well the thing about our old tank is that the cycle began to crash. So we are cycling the new one to get our axie in there so he becomes healthy again. So I don't think it would be a good idea to add anything in there before cleaning it.

But you aren't providing a land-area, correct? You're just filling this 'more terrarium like tank' with water.

You could give http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/cyclingEDK.shtml a read as well if you haven't already. :)

And I think you should put your hardscape elements (hides, decorations, etc) in as soon as possible (and definitely before you put Gus in the tank).

Yeah I have had Gus for a while. The old tank crashed, it was only water, no land areas.

So I pretty much just have to start the new tank, with a fresh cycle and everything and I am going to have to clean all of his old hides and plants and everything to put in the new tank because I dont want to add the bad bacteria that could be in there.

The one thing I just don't know how to do, is introduce him to the new tank with the new water parameters and such. I don't want to stress him out.

What do you mean by bad bacteria? Was your axolotl sick? If it wasn't, take all the substrate, decorations and filter from the old tank and your axolotl and put them in the new tank. Your old tank already has a cycle started and the cycle will transfer to the new tank no problem. You aren't adding any bioload, just more water. If you clean the decorations you're just killing good bacteria.

Very bad idea!

How long is it 10 or 15cm 5cm is a big difference... Juveniles should not be kept with adults unless you're prepared for them to end up as dinner  I would hope you wouldn't want to see it munched on so best keep them apart until similar sizes. You can divide the tank if possible.
