I will be getting my tank sometime in the next week and I'm thinking of starting to cycle it as soon as I can so I have a head start after I've moved so I can literally go out and get an Axolotl then and there:D

However I was wondering how I would stop the bacteria from dying during the move? I was thinking of putting all the plants/ornaments and filter sponge in zip-lock freezer bags full of tank water, would this work? they would probably be in there for a maximum of about 4hrs...

Thanks,

Carl

I dont know the best way to move without killing off your cycle but I think I would wait you have moved before I even set the tank up. You can cycle a tank with your axie in there but you have to do daily water testing and if needed daily water changes.......

you know what would be way easier. Instead of cycling in your fish tank so you have to drain the tank, clean it out, and then move it to the new house, you should cycle in a bucket. Just put whatever filter you plan on using on the bucket, and add an ammonia source to a bucket. Just keep whatever filter media you use wet(preferably submerged) during the move, and you should be fine. All the beneficial bacteria needs is a place to grow(bio media in filter) and an ammonia source.

That is an incredibly cool idea:D
