Mouth rot help!!!

I have a rough skinned newt whose mouth has slowly been disolving. I noticed it about 10 days ago. I bought some Melafix (antibacterial rememdy for fish) that is supposed to treat fin and tail rot and open sores and wounds. I put some in the tank daily for a week as the directions told me to do and his mouth didn't seem to get any worse for a while. Yesterday I noticed it had gotten worse again. Any ideas or suggestions.
 
Many newts in the pet trade are caught surprizingly with fishing poles. The location of the would is important in determining what caused it and curing it.
 
I have had the newt in a dirt quarantine for the past couple of days and I have been cleaning the wound daily with hydrogen peroxide. How long do I leave him in the quarantine? How do I know when he's better? How do I get him to eat? He seems to have trouble catching his food in the water. Will he be able to get it at all on land?
 
Gordy, try handfeeding with tweezers or a skewer. This allows the animal to not actively hunt after food. Keep cleaning the wound (make sure you rinse with clean, dechlorinated water!), and keep him in the quarantine until he's eating regularly and looks healthy.
 
I finally took some pictures and got a good look at the injury. It appears that the bottom jaw bone is broken. I will try to upload a picture. Is it possible for him to recover or should I euthanize him? And if so, how? Any advice is greatly appreciated.<center><table border=1><tr><td>
