Mould on driftwood

my Chinese Fire Belly Newt tank has a piece of driftwood that is partially submerged.

i've noticed mould growing on it.
should i be removing it? has it has any impact on my newts?
how do i remove it?

Take it out the tank, soak it in boiling water and then dry it out completely. Check that none of the newts have any fungus on them.
hopefully all will be well. Also, the driftwood will be moulding for a reason - is your tank well ventilated? Have dead food items been left on it? If it is a problem you could replace the wood with a stone, but that doesn't mean thae tank can not be well ventilated...
hope this helps and the newts are ok,
Chris

the newts are still fine..
i'll give drying the wood a go..

thanks
