Well, I can't afford a unit to cool them, and I do my best but the temperature will still get up there. So what are the 2 most temperature tolerant land, water, and mixed terrain newts?

Cynops ensicauda popei (Gold Dust Newt) and C. ensicauda ensicauda (Sword Tail newt) could be considered the most "heat" tolerant newts of the aquatic species. The temperature range can be in the mid to upper 70's for awhile and they are able to handle it. It's recomended they remain cooler of course, but can live in the mid 70's range and be alright. For terrestrial species, Tylototriton shanjing can tolearte the 72-75 and be alright, but as always 68-72 is the more ideal range for them in the summer (cooler period in the winter of course).

Cynops cyanurus also tolerate temps in the 70's.

Pleurodeles waltl can take it in the high 70s no problem.

I have kept Tylototriton verrucosus for periods at about 30 Celsius (mid 80s Fahrenheit) with no ill effects.

I think I'm going to go with T. Shanjing, since I was primarily going for terrestrial newt... now to try to find 2 in canada... yikes

let me know if you see any for sale in canada, i may go wit ha tiger if I can't find anything, but i'll be looking for shanjing until september.

Just to make this a little more interesting, if you were setting up a tank for shanjing and had ll the time in the world to do it over the summer, what would you do? also what do people know about the equaipment required to put new glass into an aquarium for them? I was thinking of taking out a section something like this:

__________________________
|---------------------------- |
|Mixed shale/plants around sod|
|---------------------------- |
| Grass (dirt/sod) -------_____|
|----------------------|water|
|___________________|_____|

But any problems with that idea or improvements, or total other ideas are good. Also what can I use to create a bowl shape in the water section?
