Moss

Does anyone have a good source for NICE clean sphagnum moss for salamander cages? I was/am getting mine as a dried out crispy form from a company that does mostly landscaping. It's okay... but far from nice to look at and I usually have a lot of sharp pokey sticks to pull out of it.

thanks

I'm preparing a terrarium with some live plants, in a couple of months i'll have some newts in it, would moss from my backyard be any good or is that risky?

I take a short voyage to the woods down the street whenever I need some moss. I use it for T. rivularis, Ensatinas, T. torosa, and a few geckos. I haven't had any problems with it.

if your worried about any nasties/fungies just give it a good soak overnight in some myxazinor antifungal /microbiotic equivalent, that should put your mind at rest!
