Hi All

Just thought I'd post a couple of pics of Dinolegs playing on the moss ball. I've caught him on there a couple of times now.

Not the best photos...sorry!!

Ignore the specs all over him, it's sand. For some reason he seems to always be covered in the black sand and/or food bits. LOL!!

I think s/he originally started going onto the ball to find the shrimp I put in the tank.

Thanks for looking!!

Dinolegs is a very pretty Axolotl. :D

About the sand on him -- I think all Axolotls do that. At least mine do.

Just curious as to why you have a goldfish in with your axie? (apologies if it isn't but it looks like a large fantail to me)

looks like your axie is having a blast! I would love to see a photo of your entire tank(s)

also, my axie is always covered in sand too.

It's my clean up crew. It helps clean up the uneaten food.

While I know it's not recommended due to gill nipping and/or getting eaten by the Axi's, it's been in there for about a month now with no gill nipping and after the Axi tried once to get a bite they seem to have come to an understanding. I realise though that all that can change and I continue to keep a very close eye on my Axi's and redcap.

I noticed someone on another forum had several "fancy goldfish" in with their Axi's. I spoke to him at length, he'd been doing it for some years, so I decided to give it a try.

Again, I know it may not work out and I am keeping a close eye on my Axi's.

Chris, here is a pic of the tank from another thread.

It's a 3 ft tank. I've only just stained the new stand and gotten a cannister filter. The filter is still cycling, hence why the old internal filter is still running.

The guppies were put in as live food but have grown and florished on their own. LOL!! There are also 3 cory catfish in there to help cleanup. The Axi's show no interest in them at all, they swim past each other and ignore each other. No nipping, no nothing.

Cheers

I like you tank and the idea of keeping your axie in a community, if I may ask, is he well fed? that could be why he leaves the other tankmates be. I currently have 1 large golden female in a 25 gallon tank of her own, and I keep white cloud minnows in a separate tank as breeders.

keep in mind that cory catfish and loaches have a small spines under their eyes that could cause damage if your axie eats one.

It's mainly suggested they arn't kept together because Goldfish are know as dirty fish and tend to dirty the water 100x faster than most other fish.

Playground? PLAYWALLS! :D
I love the idea.

Chris, yep, they are definitely well fed. I know corys have barbells/spines. However, so far they've ignored each other. The corys can even nibble on food right in front of the Axi's head without incident. I think maybe they're too big for the Axi's now. Corys are also less agressive than many of the loach family. I've kept both corys and loaches for 20+ years and have noticed loaches are more aggressive which is why I chose corys for the tank. But as I said earlier I do keep a close eye on the Axi's...just to be sure.

Blaze, yeah I know goldies are dirty. But one in a 3 ft tank that's overfiltered is fine. Plus I still "collect" all the poop and do a water change once a week. It's my Friday routine, I clean and do water changes on all 5 of my tanks. My other 4 tanks are tropical community tanks.

Snake, LOL!! I like the idea of a moss wall but it would be a lot of effort to keep it together. The balls tend to have pieces fall apart quite often as it is.

How does one make a moss ball? I like the look of them, but have never heard of them before!!

By the way, Dinolegs is a lovely lotl!! Looks like he's very much enjoying that moss ball. It looks comfy. I'd lounge on it, definitely!

Corydoras aeneus need to live in water with a temperature of 23-26 °C.
Axolotls live in water with a temperature below 20°C.
So they need to be kept separate only because of that.
And because of the fact that your axolotls will try to eat them.
Guppy´s are also warm water fish, so they need to be in an other tank to.

Thanks for that Sander.

My Corys and guppy's have all been bred for many years in cold water. These particular ones were sold as cold water fish for that very reason. My LFS has them seperate to the tropical ones. As I said earlier I've had fish for over 20 years and I'm very careful as to what I do with them.
