Hello,

I just recently got my first salamander! He is a tiger sali and was in his larval form when i first got him about 2 months ago and about a week ago i noticed him starting to morph. he has been shedding his skin, he has lost his tail fin and almost lost his gills (they are still there, just kind of look like nubs) i took him out of his aquatic tank and put him a smaller travel sized container that is still plenty big for him and i have it tilted up so half of the container in dry and he has somewhere to crawl out of the water if he wants. He still spends about 50/50% of his time underwater still trying to use his gills even though they are practically gone. i am not sure when it would safe to move him to his new terrarium if he is still wanting to spend so much time under the water?

Also his spots/bands are a brownish/green color. When will he turn yellow?

Thanks everyone!

He may not ever turn yellow. There's a huge variety of colors in tiger salamanders.

As for setups, make sure the land portion of the tank has lots of hides. Otherwise he'll continue to choose water over land. Once the gill-nubs are completely gone, you can move him to a terrestrial setup.
