My Vittatus babies morphed today. Wow I never expected them to be so small. I have set them up in a land based container with coconut bark subtrate, moss, a small dish of water, and the cork bark they were hiding in in there tank. What now? I need to feed them something, what is best and easiest at this point. I need a food source I can give them now so starting a culture info would help but not right away. Please tell me if I am doing this correctly, it is my first time with babies and I am so attached to them I don,t want to mess it up.

Flightless fruitflies, including fruitfly maggots, pinhead crickets, grindal worms and springtails.
You could also try collectng tiny insects by shaking a tree branch over a bucket, or sweeping a fine net through nettles.
If doing this try to make sure that no pesticides have been used in the area you collect from.
I know exactly what you mean about the size of these newts on metamorphosis, as I had the same problems last year.
The newts in question are still with me though and doing well.

Take a look at the section on bringing up juvenile newts on Henk Walleys site, you can find this on the links section of this site.
Hope all goes well for you

In addition to Morg's excellent suggestions, you may be able to get them to eat live blackworms from a very shallow dish (wading depth).

Thanks to all for your suggestions. At this point I have fed fruitflies, pinheads, and the tubifex. i have not seen any of them eat but many are growing and looking fat. A few will not make it though as they are looking small and skinny. Talk to ya all soon.
