Hello all,

I am in the process of making an in depth help sheet about what to do when your axolotl goes through metamorphosis. I plan on posting this sheet on Caudata to help others in the future who might experience this, as I have just recently had my axolotl turn salamander.

I thought it would be a great idea to add a " frequently asked questions " section to the bottom of the care sheet, but need other peoples opinions on questions that they themselves are asking.

If you could please post a question that you would have about an axolotl metamorphosis this could help me a lot.

I will try my very best to answer these questions as in depth and accurately as I can and post my answers along with the care sheet so that other users don't have to spend hours and days searching for information that is spread all over caudata and the internet in small pieces. ( I found this to be very stressful when I didn't understand what was happening to my axolotl )

Thank you all so much!

the axolotl go metamorphosis when there are serious problems with water. or if it is imposed by curious owners and senseless. the metamorphosis greatly reduces the lifespan. I do not teach it to do so.

What are the signs that my axie is starting to morph?

What causes this to happen?

What can I do to lessen the stress to my axie?

What changes am I going to have to make to my cleaning/maintenance/feeding routine once the morph has finished?

What do I have to change in my tank for my newly morphed friend?

That's not entirely true. Some do it in perfect water conditions and the owners haven't forced it to do so.

Thank you Luca! That was a very helpful list.

And yes, while metamorphosis is not typically natural in axolotls it does occasionally happen. I agree that it is inhumane to try to force a morph, I am simply creating a help sheet so that others know how to properly care for a morphing axolotl to keep them as healthy as possible, no matter what caused it in the first place.

My axolotl morphed at a young age with healthy water peramiters and I didn't force anything. he is still healthy and happy, just looks a little different than his siblings now.
