Hi!
I’m looking into getting a new species in the future (currently have some ribbed newts) and was looking for something temperature tolerant as I’m from Texas. My current tank usually stays around 68, never seen it over 72 though and my ac was down for a few days at one point. I plan to invest in a chiller eventually but any recommendations for now would be great!
For reference I have an empty 20 gallon!
I was originally interested alpine newts but decided they should wait until I get a chiller.
Fire bellies (any kind) are one I was thinking about as well but any other ideas I should look into?

Cynops ensicauda ensicauda/popei are pretty resilient. They are truly beautiful, active and almost as hardy as P. waltl. If your temps don't go over 72F (22C) you don't have to worry though. Most Asian newts aren't bothered with those temperatures. My newt room gets a lot hotter in the summer, which isn't a problem as long as it cools off in the night. You can look into other Cynops/Hypselotriton species as well. Tylototriton verrucosus is an option as well.

I was looking into cynops cyanurus before but I think cynops ensicauda are my top contenders now! Thank you!

Triturus is another good bet (marbled newts like mine, or crested newts).
