Here are my little guys that hatched about 5 weeks ago. They are around 3cm at the moment, their little back legs are just starting to develop. Will be putting them in the trade section when they're a little bigger, for anyone in the Gold Coast region.

Newts are a little... ugly (no offense to the newt lovers) plus they can climb out of tanks and they are a little bit more colorful. They're probably not as lazy as salamanders, I don't think.
Salamanders have cute round black eyes, newts have eyes that looks like goats/frogs' eyes (those black lines horizontally). Newts can have crests, axolotls don't have crests.
That's all I know, hope that can help. ^_^

Vanessa, you're pretty far off the mark. It's really not based on 'cuteness', physical activity, or climbing ability. Some of my salamanders are fabulous climbers.

The technical difference is that all newts belong to the family Salamandridae. All other families are considered 'salamanders'.

Usually, newts inhabit water while salamanders are terrestrial, but there are quite a few exceptions (Mudpuppies, Cryptobranchus species, axolotls, etc).

But all newts are salamanders. Just like all toads are frogs, and all squares are rectangles. }

i see...clever with the square and rectangle thing, anyway joan how do u no so much ive like seen u all over the forum giving advise, and may i ask what ur id pic is? i have a few guess, is it a bowl, is it a ruber tube, no i think its a circular curled up snake

You stay in the hobby for a long time and you pick up the tidbits of knowlege. I'll never know enough. I can only aspire to know as much as some of these people know.

It's a ball python curled into a circle.

I might get one of your babies cause i am going to brisbane for holidays. I probably won't be allowed though cause of the travel
