I'm still a little puzzled on when and to what the diet for FBN larva usually change. I separated my four larger ones, over a month old, as I have more newly hatched babies in one tank and eggs in yet another. They've been fed a mixture of live Daphnia, a frozen combo of a "Daphnia-like" blend, and frozen baby brine shrimp. I guess I have to give white worms a try or order black worms for the larger ones? Is what I've been doing wrong? They seem to be eating rather well from what I can tell - watching them hop in classic style, growing, etc, but I don't want to take any chances w/ them. My live Daphnia is running low and I think I need to reorder for the younger larva and eggs - but I really can't find a timeline on when to move the older ones to larger foods. Can they go straight from what they're eating to frozen bloodworms at some point? Should I go to the larger Daphia (p. rather than m.) when I reorder???

Generally speaking, it is all about body size. I introduce new foods slowly. When switching from live to prepared foods (like frozen bloodworms) I use a turkey baster to simulate movement until the little ones catch on. I usually attempt bloodworms at around one inch in length, chopped into small bits with a razor blade. I still continue to feed live daphnia (moina, pulex then magna straus), white worms, vinegar eels, and brine shrimp napuli too.

Remember, if it moves, they will eat it.

When deciding when it is time to change foods, use your best judgment. If the larvae are look large enough to eat it, they probably will. If they don't, try that food again in a week.
