Mixing....

Ive seen the species mixing topic, but dont see anyone whos tried mixing Chinese fire bellys with any types of Loach.

Has anyone mixed CFBN's with Hillstream Loach, Borneo Suckers or Weather Loach??

Or any type of Loach?

They all like simular water temp and are not at all aggresive and quite shy. (also a simular if not smaller size to the newts.)

They are very good at cleaning tanks but are they good tank mates?!

These guys do not make very good tank maters for chinese firebelly newts, Cynops orientalis, or most other newt species.

From this caresheet for hillstream loaches (also known as Borneo suckers) it states that aquaria must mimic mountain streams to best keep these fish as they need high oxygenation. High current will be very stressful for the newts.

Weather loaches are very large active fish. Something that large may snack on a small newt. The highly active nature of the loach will most likely be stressful to the newt.

Theres not many creatures newts will comfortably tolerate it seems!!

The idea of several species in the same tank does appeal to me though, shame!!

Im keeping two pachytriton labiatus with a 10 inch tiretrack eel. they get along. its amazing though, they all act the same. they see me and all want food. my eel and newts share the same hide sometimes.

These particular incidents aren't exactly the mix you are considering, but are food for thought perhaps.
