Hi,

Ok, I know the general rule concerning mixing species, but I'll throw this one out there...

I have two ten gallon tanks. One has 3 T Grans. That one I'll leave as is. The other 10 gallon has 5 CFB's, and yesterday I picked up 2 Easterns which I have in a small plastic 5 gallon. I'd like to mix those in with the CFB's, as space is limited here in my apartment.

Anyone know of any problems mixing these two species. They're roughly the same size.

Thanks,
Rick

-They both produce toxins, which are very likely to be harmful to each other
-They are from completely different sides of the world (and very likely to be WC), so they would probably be carrying parasites, which some may not have any resistance against
-as they have similar habits, they will be in direct competition with each other, the weaker getting stressed and less food.
-If any of the eastern newts are male, they may mistaken the other newts for females, and drown or at least stress them

personally ive had no problem with firebelly newts and eastern red spotted in the same tank
but thats just me and everyone thinks im weird lol

Rick - It would be better not to do it. I would say it's OK only if the following conditions are met:
1. At least a month quarantine for the new ones.
2. The easterns are female (for the reason mentioned).
3. You don't mind taking a small risk of toxicity or spread of parasites that may exist.
4. You use a larger tank. A 10 gal tank with 5 cfbn is already at the limit of the number of animals it should have. Adding two more of any kind is too much.

Thanks for the advice guys.
