Mixed Chinese Hypselotriton/cynops tank?

I was thinking about mixing a pair of blue tailed newts and a pair of Chinese fire bellies in one large tank is this possible or could their be a potential for something bad to happen?

Well being such similar species and so close in size don't think anything disastrous will occur. However the other species will be a constant source of stress for the newts and can lead to health problems. It might be ok if you provide enough space for them to establish their own territories, but this would mean at least a 20 gallon tank.

Some problems to consider are the possibility of contamination, depending on the origin of the animals, and the possibility of hybridization. The safest option is always not to mix and since there is nothing to be gained from mixing them (really, nothing whatsoever...) there´s no point in taking risks.

In most cases, C. cyanurus are more voracious eaters. You'll need to watch for the orientalis not getting their share and be prepared to separate if needed. If you are buying from a pet shop, all newts should be quarantined, they may arrive with diseases.

I must say that I've raised C.e.popei and H.orientalis juvies together in one setup with success. Once they got fully aquatic I seperated them immediately though.
