Well my tiny, armless/legless axies have more than doubled in size and I've had to upgrade them to a rubbermaid tub until I complete their vivarium setup. They seem pretty pleased....cruising around and they ate really well after settling in.

Even though their legs have regrown (they are from a pet store and were kept in a crowded and warm tank) it doesn't look like their gills will be super full. My gold albino actually still has one shriveled gill. =(

P.S. There is another hide that isn't in the pic...I was in the middle of cleaning it, lots of algae buildup.

Try cutting back on the light, and moss balls will also help with your algae problem.

I hope you mean aquarium, or atleast a fully submerged vivarium.

Axolotls do not need land unless they've undergone metamorphis and need land. Other than that the land part of the vivarium should be taken out and made into a nice, spacey aquarium.

I'd ditch the light - Axies don't have eyelids and hate light. And they don't seem to have anywhere to hide from it!

Seconding that I hope you mean aquarium and not vivarium - axies are fully aquatic and never undergo metamorphosis.

This is the pic I'm using for reference for my final setup (but as a 40 gallon show tank). No actual land but I want the look of the tree roots and probably some fake orchids in the background. The background will hide the cooling equipment and filtration.

I rarely use that light. It's mainly for feedings, photos and checkups (monitoring how things are growing in and such). For the most part they just have to deal with ambient light.

Well it does look nice however the more water volume the better water quality, more swimming space and you'll have to do less water changes.

You can make a 3d background and still have that effect, but fully submerged.

IMO the reference pic would look even cooler under water :) Though that tank is probably set up that way for a reason :)
