Hi guys,

So i am cycling my tank using guppies for around a week now.
.
I have been testing almost daily but havent really readable results till now (Damn colour charts hard to distinguish)

Ammonia:1.5mg/l
Nirtite:0.3mg/l
Nirtate:12.5mh/l

So i believe my tank is definatly cycling now.
Would it be right in saying i will be starting the second stage of cycling shortly where ammonia and nitrite will start to drop and nitrate go up?

Yes great job. Your cycling is more than halfway there. After a while, there will be a large enough population of beneficial bacteria to speed up the rate of conversion between the types of nitrogenous compounds.

If you are willing to perform daily testing and frequent water changes the next few weeks, i would say its safe to even have 1 axie in there. Otherwise, you might also like to wait it out till the water quality is more settled.

Good to hear =)

I will preform a 20% water change tomorrow. want to keep my fish in there safe.

(i have a pregnant one that didnt seem to be acting herself-- not sure if its the levels or if she is due to have her babies-- so i have taken her out of my tank and put her into my dad is this net cage that sticks to the tank so she is by herself)

As i go back to work full time on monday i think i will let the tank cycle completely untill it is safe to house the axolotl.

After the water change should i just keep monitering the levels untill the ammonia and nitrite are zero?

And than when it stays that way for a few days(or weeks) i am ready to house some axys?

Hi, sounds like your tank is coming along nicely i'd still wait a few weeks as you dont know what diseases your guppies may have got. This will also allow the cycle to finish. Also be more wary of transferring fish (and axolotls) from one tank to another. If your dad has fish in his tank that guppy could be ill and wipe his tank out. (assuming they didn't come from that tank in the first place.) but good luck your doin well. Cant wait to see your axolot when you get him! Mel

Ever here the saying a watched pot never boils? Well a watched tank never cycles. Its going to take close to a month to fully cycle that tank. Just relax check it every few days and take the guppies back to the pet store when your done if you atre worried about desease. It seems you are finally on your way though. You will be a proud Axie owner very soon.
