Hi,

By the looks of things my little marbled newts are about to morph. I've read up about the process on here and know that people say that they don't really eat when they go through the transition, however does this include the few days before they change? It's just they seem to have gone off their food the last day or so and I want them to be as healthy as possible when they do morph. Any advice on this or the morphing process in general would be appreciated.

Thanks

Some of mine would go off of food for up to a week while others would never miss a meal. If you haven't already I would reduce the water level and add lots of plants for them to haul out on. I just let elodea float around in their tank and they loved to crawl out on that.

Thanks for your help. I've lowered the water to about an inch and have put large stones that break the surface, as well as planty of plants. I guess I'd better start stocking up on fruit flies....unless anyone else can suggest an alternative?

New morphs of this species can tackle bigger things. Small crickets, isopodos, earthworms, waxworms...they even get used to dead foods served on a paper towels or tweezer feeding.

I think my guys at first dined on the flightless fruit flies. I then introduced chopped earthworm, small slugs, woodlice etc. I have never thought to use dead foods
