He's beautiful, and welcome to the forum

Though your little axolotl does look on the thin side. What are you offering as food?

Earthworms or rosie reds are excellent sources for stable foods. Crickets are also tasty snacks

I like how your axolotl has golden freckles down his dorsal crest. It's not very common that I see white albino's with the markings, I'm hoping some of the babies I have turn out that way

By the way, to upload a picture, down at the bottom of the page it says upload attachment. Save the images as Jpeg files.

Hope this helps

Your tank looks pretty good too - from what i can see in the first pic.

thanks very much yes he will only eat worms, perhaps i will increase the quantity of worms, i feed him garden worms i have pellets but he wont touch those,he is still only a baby could that be why is on the thin side a bit

thanks for the tip i tried that method but found it wouldnt upload what so ever

cheers

i feed every day 1-2 worms , and last night i tried the pellets again but he didnt take to them, today he got 3 worms i will feed more from now on, i was told 2 worms a day and i found some days he only ate one worm and the 2nd worm would be left uneaten and disappear in the substrate

cheers

oh not sure of age but he is 8cm i think and he is not shop bought

I have one at about that size and he gets fed 1 a day. With the pellets I had to wean mine onto them at first i would drop them in the tank right on their heads so the movement make them grab it, they soon lean that its food and start taking it off the floor.

hope this helps.

thanks Jenny
i have shown him the pellet but unless its put right in front and he feels like it he wont take it, i find if i drop the worm in and its not right in front of him and he misses it somehow the worm disappears and he has gone without,

id like to wean him onto pellets too, im a little worried what would i do when i go away for 6 days in May will he be ok

cheers

Sarah

Your axolotl will be able fine without food for six days Sarah. Also, it might be best to start off hand feeding your axolotl the pellets to help it get used to them.

thanks Jarred , what food do you feed yours and what is the optimum size tank for an axolotl, i gather the bigger the better, he is currently in a standard 2ft , and do you just have the one, im having a hard time finding one almost the same size as him plus id like a black one

cheers

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
